April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month!!
Demand the Change: End Sexual Violence in Minnesota
April brings an annual opportunity to focus awareness on sexual violence, the culture that perpetuates this violence, and its prevention. Our goal is to not only change the institutional policies and practices that support the behaviors we encounter every day, but also to change our cultural norms so that this type of behavior is not expected, accepted, or tolerated. Sexual Assault Awareness Month brings programs together to make a loud and unified statement throughout Minnesota that the current status of women and children in our society is no longer acceptable.
MNCASA and the Prevention Advisory Committee are excited to announce that the theme for Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2011 is
Demand the Change: End Sexual Violence in Minnesota. This theme celebrates our current prevention efforts, highlights prevention efforts scheduled during SAAM, and inspires newfound energy for continued prevention work throughout Minnesota. This theme speaks to our current prevention initiative, Demand the Change, Change with Heart, to move beyond awareness-raising toward creating a movement and engaging communities into taking action to prevent sexual violence. We know we can
end sexual violence in Minnesota. In order to do so, we must change the culture and social norms that creates a
demand for this sexually toxic society and foster sexual violence. In order to change this environment, we need everyone in our communities to take action and
demand the change. It is with
demanding the change; we will end sexual violence in Minnesota.
MNCASA is excited to announce that Governor Mark Dayton is
demanding the change by declaring April 2011 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month for Minnesota! To view the proclamation signed by Governor Mark Dayton, please click on the following link.
