A unique role of the sexual assault coalition is to assist in changing policies to stop sexual violence and ensure that victims receive the justice they deserve. MNCASA accomplishes this goal by educating policy makers and the public on the issue of sexual violence and primary prevention measures, and by spearheading policy initiatives that are victim-centered. MNCASA develops its public policy efforts through its Public Policy Committee and Access to Justice Subcommittee using information from a variety of sources including: advocacy program experience with cases, prosecutor and civil attorney experience with cases, community groundswell, trends in local, state and federal laws, regulations, and procedures, and best practices in approaches to preventing sexual violence gathered from around the country.
