Someplace Safe logoMission Statement

To work in partnership with local college campuses to help support the development and implementation of campus-based sexual violence prevention programming and strategies.

Project Overview

  • Facilitate partnerships and relationship building between campuses
  • Host Green Dot bystander intervention training and assist in programming and implementation on campuses
  • Improve and build infrastructure to promote primary prevention strategies and policies on rural college campuses

Lessons Learned

  1. The booking process to host and book Green Dot training takes time – plan early!
  2. It is important to have buy-in from campus administration as early as possible in the project to ensure the most effective commitment from the campus.

Why It's Needed

“These projects are important for our campus as it will allow ongoing prevention work to continue and further support our efforts by bringing new initiatives to our rural campus. Specifically, with grant funds, we brought in the Haven program, a premier online program addressing the critical issues of sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and sexual harassment among students. All incoming, degree-seeking students at the University of Minnesota Morris are required to complete this program online. The University of Minnesota, Morris is a Green Dot campus as well. This is a proven and effective program to decrease personal power based violence. We have been doing Green Dot for several years and the grant has allowed us to continue this work, broaden our efforts and increase the number of trainers. The importance of this in a rural campus community like Morris is significant and we are very happy to partner with Someplace Safe, MNCASA and other area institutions.”Jeanne Williamson, UMM
